The United Select Soccer Association is a competitive soccer club supported by Dynamo Soccer. USSA plays traveling teams in the southern suburban area.

Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
April 22, 2002 at Barnes and Noble, 6:30 p.m.

Attendance: Kirk Malmer, Tammy Malmer, Jeff Johnson, Doug Wadley, Ed Smith, Brian Rogers, Marla Krutsinger, Barb McGuiness, Kerry O’Connell, and Jeff Gindy

Guests: John Krincek; Gary Dupuis, Midwest Sports and Awards; Rollie Szilard, Andy Newsome, and Blair Minton, USSA Soccer

Special Presentation: Mr. Dupuis presented 2 models of trophies. One model showed 3 players (gold/silver, M/F) involved in competition for control of a soccer ball, on a plastic base. The other had a track spike and a stopwatch (as an example – the soccer model would depict a ball and a goal) on a plastic base. With an engraved plaque cost would be approximately $2.90. He expressed interest in bidding on uniforms next year. Ed informed him that we need 18 colors and on-time delivery.

Special Presentation: USSA Board members discussed the history of their group, organization of the USSA, the NISL, and the USSA season.  They expressed gratitude for use of the Dynamo fields during their outdoor seasons.

Committee Reports:

A.     Grounds— Concrete piles from old kickboard are sticking up and need to be removed. Ed will look at it in about 2 weeks.

·        Ed will look for someone to paint the sign since Kirk’s guy hasn’t shown up.

·        Water pipe by building is also sticking up. Jeff J. will look at it and if he can’t fix it Ed will contact his brother.

·        Also reported that people are driving through the fields from the Richmond Drive area.  Kerry will ask BBCHS AD Mark Sutton about the possibility of blocking the area with parking blocks.

  B.     Equipment— Kirk’s trophy from last meeting was $2.95. Decision on trophy purchase at the next meeting.

·        Board shirts will be purchased for new members only.

·        It was suggested that a bid sheet be designed for next year to bid our equipment, shirts, etc. Trophies were bid this year.

  C.     Coaches—Doug is going to talk with Alex Habeeb about ideas for the clinic.

D.    Registration
— Times are all set. School flyers were sent to Bradley, Bourbonnais, St. George, Maternity BVM, St. Martins, St. Pat/Theresa, St. Paul, and St. Martin’s. Tammy will bring a cash box with start up money. Registration forms are printed and ready to go.

E.      Publicity—Journal photo shoot with the Wadleys Tuesday at 4:00 at the Journal offices.

F.      Sponsors— 16 of the 27 remaining sponsor plaques are distributed. Letters will go out Thursday. DARE will give a donation; Salkeld’s will not sponsor. Brian will shoot for 50 sponsors. Possibility of placing ads on the side of the building was discussed. No decision was reached at this time.

G.     Fundraising—No report.

H.     Concessions—Sanitation classes are scheduled for June 3 or 10. You pay at the class. Ed motioned that Dynamo pay for Barb to get her sanitation certificate. Doug seconded. Motion carried.

·        Pop machine will be filled shortly. We will continue to use Coke products because they sponsor teams. Coke will donate a bike and we will raffle chances on it. Coke will donate a price board for the concession stand.

I.        Team Parents—Nothing to report.

J.       Referees—No one will referee Dynamo games unless they attend one clinic. Must be 14 years old to ref. Refs can get some practice time in by reffing scrimmages in the preseason. Coaches should let Kerry know if they have a scrimmage scheduled.

K.    Pictures—VIP contract has been sent in.

L.      Building—Jeff is meeting A-1 on 4/23 at 3:30. He will request the following key arrangement: 1 key for coaches room, bathrooms, and office and a second key for the concession key. It was suggested to get the concession key as a master.

-Kerry has sent the First Grant application in. Mark Sutton wants to see inside the building.

-Servicemaster turned in a bid of $58 for cleaning service on the bathrooms. Brian can get us another bid.

Officer Reports:

A.     Treasurer-Nothing to report.

B.     Parent Rep-Nothing to report

C.     Secretary-Newsletter is being printed for registration.

D.     Vice President-Nothing to report

E.      President-Contractors will be paid off with part of the registration fees. A smaller loan will be needed to complete the payments. We will see how much money comes in from sign ups. Mowings revert to us on July 1. Ed suggested borrowing 20K and paying back what is not needed.
